THE AWARD
The Pattis Family Foundation Global Cities Book Award celebrates nonfiction books that contribute to a better understanding of the role cities play in addressing present and future global challenges.
The award, proudly hosted by Metropolis, aims to honor exceptional literary works while underscoring the potential of books to spark new ideas, amplify diverse voices, and contribute to the creation of more equitable and sustainable cities.
CALLING GLOBAL AUTHORS TO ELEVATE URBAN VOICES!
For its present edition, The Pattis Family Foundation Global Cities Book Award and Metropolis want to recognize published nonfiction books written in English or translated into English that:

Offer new ideas, data, stories, and insights on urban issues.

Are well-researched and informative, showcasing innovative urban-based approaches that address global policy challenges.

Demonstrate how cities are shaping the world and exploring new ways to address sustainable urbanization and metropolization.

Are a joy to read!
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Publishing requirements

The book must be an original nonfiction work (no reprints, textbooks, edited compilations, or anthologies).

It should be accessible to the general public and policy-makers, available in hard cover or paperback, and published by a reputable academic or trade press. Self-published works and e-book-only titles are not eligible.

The book must be copyrighted between November 2023 and March 2025.

The book must be published in English (judged based on its English publication date, not the original publication date if it was first published in another language).

Submissions will be accepted until March 31, 2025.

Publishers are encouraged to submit their titles through the online form available on Metropolis website. Authors and book enthusiasts are also invited to ask their publishers to submit their books for consideration.

THE PRIZE
The award will be given in September 2025 during the celebration of Metropolis 40th Anniversary Gala in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
The winning book will receive a prize of $25,000.
