Metropolis is now officially a Supporting Institution of Smart City Expo World Congresses
Metropolis and Fira Barcelona, institution responsible for the organization of the yearly Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), have just signed a collaboration agreement that establishes our association as one of this major event’s supporting institutions, until 2020. With this partnership, Metropolis enhances its positioning at the world’s leading event for cities, and opens up new opportunities of visibility and leadership for its members.
Since 2011, the SCEWC has been consolidating itself as a global hub where leaders of the most innovative cities, companies and organizations come together to share ideas, present projects and solutions, and drive urban transformation to a sustainable and better future. In 2017, the congress counted with the attendance of more than 18000 participants from 120 countries, including the representatives of over 700 cities, more than 675 exhibitors and 400 speakers.
Approaching its 8th edition next November, SCEWC has become an unmissable event combining the latest urban solutions and technologies with inspirational keynote speeches on improving life in cities. This year's edition will focus on five main topics responding to the key issues facing cities: Digital Transformation, Urban Environment, Mobility, Governance & Finance, and Inclusive & Sharing Cities.
In the framework of the new collaboration between Metropolis and SCEWC, Metropolis is organizing two key sessions at the 2018 edition of the event:
- On November 13th, “Safety and Public Spaces: mapping metropolitan gender policies” will present policies and measures being implemented by metropolitan governments around the world to combat women’s and girls’ sexual violence in public spaces.
- On November 14th, “Finances: the backbone of metropolitan governance", will bring together city managers and the financial experts from our membership to discuss topics such as the allocation of skills, fiscal deficit situations, restrictions on borrowing capacity, emissions of debt and municipal bonds, public-private partnerships, circular economy, the capture of the surplus value of the soil, etc.
Furthermore, as a supporting institution of SCEWC, Metropolis offers special conditions and exclusive discounts for the registration of representatives from its membership.
