The Metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga, which brings together 4 municipalities in the central area of northern Colombia, will host this World Metropolitan Day event with the objective of sharing ideas and participating in debates to improve metropolitan governance and make metropolitan challenges and opportunities a priority on the world stage.

Recognizing that the 2019 Metropolitan World Day campaign focuses on the implementation of specific Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the metropolitan scale, Bucaramanga will host an event dedicated to the progress made on the following SDGs:

• 11 - Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
• 12 - Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
• 13 - Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
• 15 - Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
