U20 First Sherpa Meeting
The Italian cities of Rome and Milan are co-chairing the Urban 20 (U20) initiative and representing the Urban 20 in the G20 context for 2021, under the Italian G20 Presidency. The cities’ Sherpas of Rome and Milan, together with the conveners, C40 Cities (C40) and United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), form the 2021 Executive Team responsible for an efficient and effective Urban 20 cycle.
The Urban 20 (U20) is a powerful platform for city leaders to voice, collaborate, discuss, and concur on crucial environmental, social, and economic issues. Under the leadership of Milan and Rome, the 2021 U20 cycle will focus on key issues related to a green and just recovery from the COVID-19 crisis, creating opportunities for all and reducing inequality, the protection of digital rights and digital inclusion, and the implementation of global development agendas such as the 2030 Agenda, the Paris Agreement, and the New Urban Agenda. Moreover, it will emphasize cross-collaboration with other G20 tracks and engagement groups on salient urban issues to make sure the urban voice is strongly integrated in overlapping policy areas. The priorities of Italy’s 2020 G20 presidency are based on three fundamental pillars: people, planet, and prosperity.
Aligning our collective efforts towards these priorities will be critical in drawing the attention of the G20 leaders and ensuring the success of the U20 2021 cycle. To kick off this cycle and to learn more about the initiative for this year, the U20 Executive Team would like to formally invite you to attend and listen in on the first day of the Sherpa Meeting. This day of the meeting will be dedicated to the objectives and milestones of the 2021 cycle in which we will hear more on the chairs priorities and sherpa priorities, and joint objectives for this year as well as on the G20 2021 process and hear more on the priorities of the Italian G20 presidency.
