Mentoring on Upgrading Informal Settlements
[2 MB]
21 pages
The promise of housing for all has been one of the focus areas of the eThekwini Municipality since the first South African Local Government elections in December 2000. Although this is not deliberate, the promise has been focused on the provision of housing and not necessarily “integrated and sustainable human settlements” based on several factors including resources, professionals used or not used in the process, lack of social capital and engagement in the process and access to well located land and resources for investment in the public realm as opposed to the individual unit are some of the key approaches that has created the environments we see today.
