El 11º Congreso Mundial de METROPOLIS,celebrado en Hyderabad, se clausuró con gran éxito el 9 de octubre 2014 tras haber acogido a cerca de 1800 participantes venidos de distintas ciudades de todo el mundo.

Durante 5 días, el tema de Cities for All (“Ciudades para todos”) inundó las temáticas de las 60 sesiones celebradas. Expertos y representantes políticos hicieron de portavoz de sus respectivas ciudades para hacer de las reuniones un debate para el intercambio de conocimientos y para acercar sus experiencias a los delegados presentes (consultar el programa final aquí). Asimismo, los delegados pudieron escoger entre 9 visitas de terreno en una de las ciudades más vibrantes de la india, Hyderabad.

It has been a general consensus among cities and local governments worldwide that innovation leads a city towards development and helps to create a better life for its citizens. Urban innovation in an all-round manner can help a city in its attempts to address challenges arising in such fields as social-economic development, environmental protection and urban governance.
In accordance with the resolution of the Executive Bureau Meeting of UCLG held in Rabat, Morocco and with wide support from UCLG World Secretariat, and the World Association of the Major Metropolises – METROPOLIS; the city of Guangzhou proposed the establishment of the UCLG Community on Urban Innovation within the framework of UCLG. On 19th June 2014, at its Executive Bureau meeting in Liverpool, UCLG Executive Bureau approved the establishment of the UCLG community on Urban Innovation.

The METROPOLIS Vice-President, Mr. Michael Müller from Berlin City, will represent the association today during the first Habitat III PrepComm meeting in New York City. Mr. Müller’s speech can be followed live through the link: http://webtv.un.org/ between 09:30 and 10:30 (NYC local time) and 15:30 - 16:30 CEST (Central European Summer Time).

During the 11th Metropolis World Congress in Hyderabad , there is a special series of exhibitions dedicated to the rich art, culture and people of the region. There would be glimpses of art and culture of Hyderabad, (Telangana region) in every aspect of the Metropolis World Congress but the Exhibition ‘Art @ Telangana’ would bring together the finest examples of Art from the region.  This exhibition is specially curated for the 11th Metropolis World Congress. Art @ Telangana – Soul for Urban Habitat, would bring together inspirational and emerging artists from the region, where art has been part of daily life for centuries. The sculptures, paintings and abstracts are woven in an interesting mosaic of human life, which would be exhibited throughout the 11th Metropolis World Congress venue in Hyderabad, HICC.

Social Innovation with Digital Technology

The Indian School of Business (ISB) in association with GHMC, Government of Telangana and 11th Metropolis World Congress invites entries towards concept solutions using Social Innovation with Digital Technology.

It is called to be the first initiative in India involving people in better urban planning. Citizens aged between 18 and 35 years are called to participate in the event.

The shortlisted participants will be allowed to take part in 36-hour pre-Hackathon event Sep 26-27 at the Indian School of Business (ISB). They can come up with innovation in any of the 17 focus areas including public transportation, sanitation, roads, electricity, water supply, housing, parking management and women safety.

Microsoft is collaborating with Hyderabad Urban Hackathon by proving mentorship and technical support.

There are three stages, final being the Hackathon event to be conducted on 6th October, 2014 at HICC, Hyderabad.

Megacity Think Tank Alliance (MeTTA) is an international alliance based in Seoul, and lead by the Seoul Institute. It aims at providing solutions to problems that megacities face and subsequently to improve the quality of life of their citizens.

The 1st MeTTA Forum titled “Megacity: Beyond Risk towards Safe City” will be held on 11th July 2014 at the Grand Conference Hall at Seoul City Hall. The event is organized jointly by the Seoul Institute and Seoul Metropolitan Government (member of METROPOLIS).

The Municipality of Tehran has host the National Conference on “Global City: The Role of Strategic Communication and City Diplomacy in Social Development”, in Tehran, 17-18 May 2014. The Municipality of Tehran, the Chief of Center for Public and International Relations Mr. Shahram Gilabadi together with the Tehran Urban Planning and Research Center(TUPRC) and its Deputy Head of Science and Technology Department, Mr. Ali Farhadi, invited METROPOLIS to take an active role in the conference.

Se prevé la asistencia al XI Congreso Mundial de Metropolis en Hyderabad de más de dos mil delegados procedentes de más de un centenar de ciudades de todo el mundo, así como de cargos públicos y electos de más de cien ciudades de primer y segundo nivel (las que tienen mayor número de habitantes) de India.
